Director / screenwriter Norbert ter Hall lives and works in Amsterdam; the city, which in all its diversity, is the main source of inspiration for his most recent work; the TV series A’DAM – E.V.A. (Amsterdam and many others).

This critically acclaimed and innovative series shows us how we are all, consciously or subconsciously, connected. Season 1 of A’DAM – E.V.A., which was written by Robert Alberdingk Thijm, was released in March 2011, and was broadcast for the first time in The Netherlands, by the Dutch broadcaster NPO. The series has won many national prizes; one for best scenario (De Zilveren Krulstaart), a gold statuette for best series, and the Dutch Director’s Guild award for best director. A’DAM – E.V.A. is a universal story, even more so considering the international prizes it has won: in France, for instance, it won the prize in the category ‘Best International Drama Series’ at ‘Festival de la Fiction TV’.

Season 2 followed in 2014, and was produced by the Dutch broadcasting companies VPRO, VARA and NTR. While season 1 focusses primarily on the search for happiness, season 2 draws on the theme of deepening that same happiness. In season 3, the final part of the series, the narrative works along the theme of how to share in that happiness. Season 3 will be aired for the first time on 6November 2016 at 20:25 on the Dutch TV channel NPO3.

Mr Ter Hall’s first feature film &Me (2013), which he wrote himself, is the product of his fascination for human relationships. The film is about three people of very different origin, whose paths cross in Brussels, the capital of the EU. The film was given 4 star ratings by the Dutch newspapers Het Parool and De Volkskrant, and it won a ‘Gouden Kalf’ for best cinematography.

Prior to that Mr Ter Hall directed the drama series Waltz and Mevrouw de Minister. Both series were represented at the Cologne Conference and were listed in the top ten best drama series worldwide. Throughout the entire series of the hugely popular ‘t Schaep met de 5 poten Mr Ter Hall was in charge of direction. Season 2 of this popular programme was awarded the Nipkowschijf.

Apart from making TV shows and films, Ter Hall also directs commercials and does film productions of theatre shows for Theo Maassen, Micha Wertheim, Jan Jaap van der Wal, Marie Huijbrechts and many others.

Currently Mr Ter Hall is working on a wide range of projects, among others a TV production of ‘De Gelaarsde Poes’ (Puss in Boots) by Ro-theater/Bosbros/VPRO); the feature film ‘Salamanca’ (which is currently in pre-production), and he is writing the screenplay for his new film ‘Hotel Horizon****’.

He is also founder of ‘CJP Inspirators’. This project, which is run by CJP (Cultural Youth Pass), gets Dutch celebrities to talk about culture, and give the public lots of inspiration and guidance on where to go and what to do. The aim of this project is to foster an interest in culture.
